Hi, I am Matt Swaffer, Becky's brother and I am the guy who put this site together
and am the one responsible for keeping it up and running. That said, my goal for
this website is that it not be "my site" but rather that it become a community site.
A great number of people knew and loved my sister and I hope that this site can be a place where we can remember her life but also stay in touch with one another. Going forward I hope to implement several things into the site so please come back from time to time and see what is new. Let me tell you about some of the features that I want to put into this website.
Stories: The stories section is where I want people to be able to write short memories of Becky. There are several reasons I want to do this, not the least of which is that I want to read your stories about Becky! These stories aren't just for me though, Becky's children will also be able to read these stories, particularly as they get older. David, Becky's husband, mentioned to me that he is working on a project for their youngest in particular to gather memories of Becky's life so that Donovan can have some insight into who his mother was. Within a few weeks I will have a web form where you can send stories directly from the web site and we will post them within a day or two. Eventually I want to categorize the stories according to when they happened, who they might have involved and other key characteristics. In the mean-time please feel free to send me any stories or memories you may have of Becky. Contact me here. When you send the story just tell me who you are so I have that information for future reference.
Photos: Pictures were a huge part of our life growing up and I know my dad has hundreds if not thousands of pictures from our child-hood. I am sure he will put many pictures up and if you have any pictures, please send them to me as well. Of course if you have pictures that go along with any stories you have, send me those pictures as well and I will include them on the stories page.
Resources: Those of you who knew Becky know that she passed away after a fight with breast cancer. Anyone who knew Becky and David during this time were certainly inspired by their courage and strength throughout. My parents and David's mom were pillars of strength and they spent countless hours helping with the kids, helping with Becky and of course dealing with their own hopes, fears and anxieties. My goal with the resources section of this web site is to point people to other websites, people and articles that can help others who may be going through a difficult time as well. If you have something you would like posted in this area, by all means send it to me at the same email address as the stories. Soon I hope to have some articles posted in here by the family members mentioned here as well as others close to her.
Future Plans - Private area: Eventually there will be areas of the site that are "invitation only" for friends and family members. Due to the nature of the web I want to ensure the privacy of David and the children as well as my own parents. At the same time I want to make sure that friends and family members who wish to keep up with things will be able to log in. My thinking right now is to simply ask people for their email address and I will send out a login code, perhaps once a month.
Future Plans - Friends in touch: The number of people that knew Becky and were influenced by her life is amazing to me. I want to have an area on this site where friends can stay in touch with friends. Becky has many many friends at Hyles- Anderson College as well as at Metro Baptist Church. Soon I want to have a sort of mini-directory where you can list your contact information for others who also knew Becky. This of course would be in an area where only friends and family could see it to protect your personal information.
Future Plans - Suggestions: I am open to any suggestions that you may have for the site. If you have an idea or a thought, please don't hesitate to send it my way, I would gladly welcome your input.
